Boy Scouts

All Saints Episcopal Church has been the charter organization for Pack and Troop 85 since 2014. Troop 85 has an average of 20 scouts meeting on Monday nights.  Our Monday night activities consist of patrol meetings, working on rank advancements, merit badges, and a physical activity.

Each month the troop participates in a campout or other special activity.  In the past we have done local campouts at places like Lake Lamar Bruce, Tombigbee State Park, and Trace State Park.  We have also been on several adventures like snow skiing at Hidden Valley Resort near St. Louis, MO, camping on the USS Alabama in Mobile, AL, and a weekend in Vicksburg touring and hiking at the National Military Cemetery. We recently spent a day hiking in the Sipsey Wilderness. During the pandemic, we had to be creative in making some of our monthly campouts happen.  We held two virtual campouts where the scouts camped in their own backyards and met together on zoom to share cooking stories and skits.

Troop 85 is led by Scoutmaster Vance Perkins along with 7 assistant scoutmasters. Our troop is boy led and using the patrol method. We are very active in council events and encourage older scouts to participate in the BSAs national high adventure bases. Since being at All Saints, several Troop 85 scouts and leaders have been to the 2017 National Jamboree, Florida Seabase, and Northern Tier.
